The Context
GenPsych opened a new outpatient behavioral health location with real clinical strength and no local referral base to draw from. A new site in a competitive market faces a simple problem: the providers, hospitals, and community partners who send patients do not yet know it exists, and referral relationships take time and trust to build.
The location needed steady admissions to become viable, and it needed them soon. That meant building awareness, relationships, and a referral pipeline at the same time, in a market where established programs already had the attention of local referral sources.
The Approach
As Community Liaison Specialist, I led the outreach and partnership work behind the launch. I mapped the local market to find where the right referrals would come from, then built relationships with the providers and community partners who could send them. I ran targeted outreach campaigns that put the new location in front of the referral sources that mattered most, and positioned its clinical services clearly so partners understood exactly which patients to send and when.
My earlier work as Intake Administrator gave me a direct view of how referrals move from first contact to admission. I used that understanding to remove friction along the way, so every new relationship translated into scheduled patients rather than stalling at the door.
A new location does not grow on clinical quality alone. It grows when the right referral sources trust it, know when to use it, and find it easy to work with.
The Results
The launch strategy turned a brand-new site into a fast-growing source of care:
- Scheduled admissions grew 500% as the referral network took hold.
- A referral network was built from the ground up, establishing the partnerships the location needed to sustain volume.
- Key community and provider relationships were established, giving the new site a durable base for continued growth.
Why It Worked
Launching a new location is a growth problem with a deadline. The work that made the difference was practical: know the market, build the right relationships early, make it easy for partners to refer, and connect every relationship to admissions. That same launch playbook, adapted for higher-acuity and national markets, is the work I now bring to organizations through Casey Shamy Consulting.
